The challenge

A generic walkthrough explains the interface, but users still need help applying it to their own task. Live guidance works best when it follows the product's actual workflow.

A possible workflow

  1. Choose an outcome

Define the first useful task: configure a workspace, review a document, or complete an approval.

  2. Start a contextual session

Let the user meet a guide without moving the whole workflow into another application.

  3. Use a focused set of tools

Combine communication with shared document context, a whiteboard, or approval cards as the task requires.

  4. Return to independent work

Close the session once the user has completed the task and knows how to repeat it.

Measure the product outcome

Track completion of the task and the points where users need help. Your application owns these product metrics; an embedded session is one part of the experience.
